Galápagos Islands – Ecuador

Where we got engaged!!

What can I say – WOW! We are ashore on the island of Santa Cruz – Galapagos! Today was breakfast at 6.30am and into the tour by 7.30am – making the most of our last day on the motor yacht the Darwin Explorer. If I were to start describing the past 7 days this e mail would be 15 pages long.

We arrived last Sunday, got off the plane and were on the boat within an hour, from there every minute of every day has been filled with the most amazing “wild” life. The animals are totally wild, but have an incredible tolerance for humans – they really just don´t care that we are there. I have not put the video camera down for the past week (thanks Alan – great advice!!). Around every corner another land or marine Iguana, a group of sea lions, a clutch of baby birds. We have walked, explored, climbed into, onto and over the islands – volcanos, lava fields, beaches, bushes, tunnels.

We have swam, snorkelled and dived with sea turtles, sea lions (which play like frisky young dogs), zillions of fish and so much marine life…stunning! We laughed at the blue footed boobies. Marveled at the 120 + year old Giant Tortoises. Our guide has taught us about the evolution of the islands, and the theories of evolution that developed from Charles Darwin´s visit here (he was actually a geologist on a mapping expedition when he arrived).

Keryn and I are both still buzzing, and so very pleased we made it out here – if you ever get the chance take it!!

From here we are headed back to mainland Ecuador and to the middle of the country for a few days before heading south into Peru. We have been travelling 28 days already, and won´t be ready to come home at Christmas
